What is Somatic Breathwork?
Somatic breathwork is a therapeutic practice that uses intentional, rhythmic breathing to release stress, trauma, and emotional tension stored in the body. When we experience deep grief or trauma, such as losing a loved one to suicide, our bodies hold onto the pain, which can manifest as tightness, anxiety, or a sense of disconnection.
Through somatic breathwork, you tap into the body's natural ability to heal by engaging the nervous system, increasing oxygen flow, and releasing stored emotions. This process helps create space for clarity, calm, and connection to return.
How Does It Help Survivors of Suicide Loss?
Grief is not only emotional—it impacts the body and mind on a profound level. Survivors of suicide loss often experience:
Dysregulated nervous systems, leading to feelings of overwhelm, fatigue, or numbness.
Physical tension in areas like the chest, shoulders, and jaw, as the body holds onto the stress of loss.
Difficulty processing emotions, causing them to feel stuck in their grief.
Somatic breathwork works by calming the sympathetic nervous system (responsible for the "fight-or-flight" response) and activating the parasympathetic nervous system (responsible for "rest-and-digest"). Scientifically, this leads to a reduction in stress hormones like cortisol and an increase in feel-good chemicals like endorphins and serotonin.
By practicing somatic breathwork, survivors can:
Regain a sense of safety within their bodies.
Release the pain and tension held from traumatic loss.
Experience moments of peace, clarity, and connection to their emotions.
This 90-minute session will guide you through:
An introduction to the science and benefits of somatic breathwork.
A guided practice designed specifically for survivors of suicide loss.
A safe and supportive space for healing and renewal.
