Mental Health Education That Moves Beyond Awareness
Jayne Madigan is a speaker and educator who teaches practical, neuroscience-informed skills for emotional safety, resilience, and human connection.
In addition to supporting survivors of suicide loss through Healing After Suicide™, Jayne works with workplaces, healthcare systems, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to provide evidence-informed mental health education that helps people navigate emotional distress, chronic stress, grief, and disconnection — safely and compassionately.
Her talks create emotionally safe, non-triggering environments while equipping audiences with practical tools they can apply immediately in both their personal and professional lives.
A More Accurate Conversation Around Suicide
Much of today’s mental health messaging centers around “prevention.”
But this language can unintentionally create shame, pressure, and misunderstanding — particularly for those who have lost someone.
Jayne offers a more grounded and compassionate framework:
Suicide is not a failure of love, effort, or awareness.
It is often the result of a brain in crisis — much like any other medical condition.
Just as:
Some people survive a heart attack, while others do not
Two individuals can receive the same cancer treatment with different outcomes
The same is true for the brain.
This perspective helps reduce stigma, soften blame, and create space for more honest, supportive, and effective conversations around mental health.
Why This Work Matters
Awareness alone does not create change.
What’s often missing are the practical skills that help people navigate emotional distress — both within themselves and in others.
These are the skills that help people:
Feel safer in their bodies and emotions
Regulate stress, anxiety, and overwhelm
Stay present during difficult conversations
Recognize when additional support is needed
Respond with compassion rather than fear or avoidance
Jayne’s work focuses on building emotional capacity and connection — two of the most important protective factors in mental health and well-being.

Signature Talk
Why We’re Talking About Suicide All Wrong
Reframing Suicide as a Brain-Based Crisis — and What Actually Helps
Most conversations about suicide focus on awareness, warning signs, and prevention.
But for many — especially those who have lost someone — this framework can feel incomplete, and at times, unintentionally harmful.
This signature talk introduces a more accurate, compassionate, and science-informed perspective:
Suicide is not simply a choice.
It is often the result of a brain in crisis.
Through this lens, Jayne helps audiences understand:
Why traditional messaging can increase shame and silence
How the brain and nervous system respond under extreme stress
Why people may not reach out — even when support is available
What actually helps someone feel safe enough to stay connected
This is not a clinical lecture.
It’s a human, accessible, and deeply grounding experience that shifts how people think, speak, and respond to mental health challenges.
